SPIRIT OF HAVANA & TOUR IN CLASSIC CAR
Walk through the history of the Old Havana and tour in the modern part of the metropolis.
In the morning, city tour of the historic Old Town, where 500 years of architecture can be admired and which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982 due to its unique ensembles.
The Plaza de Armas (Arms Square) was used as a parade ground until the 19th century. On its west side, the square is flanked by the former governor's palace, Palacio de los Capitanes Generales, which we visit. Today it houses the Municipal Museum. On the opposite side of the square is El Templete, a monument that commemorates the fact that the city of San Cristóbal de la Habana was founded on this spot in 1519. On the north side is the Castillo de la Real Fuerza, the oldest building in the city. On the roof is the landmark of Havana - the Giraldilla - a bronze weathervane over 1m tall. At the Plaza de Armas there is also a book market, where you can make some bargains, buy antiquarian books or old coins - negotiating skills are required. The Plaza de San Francisco de Asis is located on Havana Bay, directly across from the ferry and cruise terminals. The square owes its name to the monastery, which is dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi and, with its 42m-high tower, is one of the tallest religious buildings in Latin America. From the tower you have a magnificent view over the old town. The center of the square is adorned by a marble lion fountain.
During a short break in between we invite you for a Cuban coffee speciality - Cuban coffee at it's best! At the Plaza Vieja you can let your gaze wander over the renovated magnificent buildings that line the square. Where the Plaza de la Catedral is today, there used to be a swamp. After it was drained, Havana's Baroque cathedral, the largest parish church in the country, was built in the 18th century, giving the square its name. As we continue, we will seek out one of Hemingway's former hangouts, the famous Bodeguita del Medio, where we will treat you to a typical Cuban cocktail. Stop for lunch in the old town (not included).
In the afternoon drive in a Classic Car through Havana. The route is optimally designed by us and you will see and experience many highlights of the city such as the view of Havana from the high statue of Christ, driving through the diplomatic quarter Miramar and seeing the magnificent mansions in the Cubanacan district, a prestigious neighborhood with stately homes. Continue to Fusterlandia in Jaimanitas; Cuban artist Fuster decorated his house and parts of the neighborhood here with mosaics and sculptures. Then through the lush, green city park around the river Río Almendares, to the cemetery Necropolis Colón, where numerous personalities have found their last resting place and further to the famous Plaza de la Revolución - Square of the Revolution - with a huge likeness of the popular heroes Ernesto Che Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos. Stops along the way for photography and refreshments. Return to accommodation.
