THE BAY OF HAVANA
One day e-bike tour. One day of fun.
Explore, side by side with the classic vintage cars, bicycle rickshaws or horse-drawn carriages on the e-bike the beauties and peculiarities of Havana! You will cycle to the places where history, culture, locals and lifestyle meet and wait to be discovered.
After a short introduction to the bikes, the adjustment to the individual body size, the clarification about the condition of the Cuban roads, followed by information about the rules in the Cuban city traffic, it goes off with the e-bikes on our discovery tour in the direction of Bahia de La Habana. Means of transportation in Cuba are generally different than what we are used to, you will quickly notice this.
The way with our E-Bikes leads us today over the water to the partly forgotten side of the pulsating metropolis La Habana into the center of the Santeria and the former slave trade. This eastern part of the Bahia de La Habana has preserved most of its original charm and is hardly visited by tourists, because many do not even know how to reach this part of Habana. Get ready for renewed adventure of our rather unusual routes.
This route will flood you with impressions of authentic Cuban everyday life. You will dive into the Santeria world imported from Africa with the slaves and on the same day you will learn how the metropolis protected itself from outside attacks in the past. On the other side of the fascinating metropolis of La Habana, much of its history has been preserved. Stops at some of the most famous and also lesser known highlights are of course an integral part of this anything but ordinary route as well.
We start in the direction of La Rampa, along the former Hilton, which was named Habana Libre shortly after the revolution, and the Hotel Nacional, where the Mafia was usually at home. Along the Malecón, which many say is the most beautiful waterfront in the world, we head specifically for the La Habana ferry dock. There we take a lanchita, as the Cubans affectionately call their harbor ferries, which is used almost exclusively by Cubans.
This takes us to the other side of the Bahia. We visit the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Regla. Afterwards we will go to Guanabacoa, where we will meet the oldest car in Cuba and at the same time dive deeper into the Santeria themes. The impressions we will gather on our way around the Bahia towards El Cristo will remain unforgettable. Cojimar on the east coast cannot be missed on this tour. A fishing village that Hemingway visited very often. El Cristo is waiting for us, a view of La Habana that is second to none.
We have the opportunity to visit the Comandancia del Che with its original furniture, before we go to the Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabaña and the Castillo de los Tres Reyes del Morro and in Casablanca we take the Lancha towards La Habana. We will also be supplied with minerals, vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, fluids, etc. that day, the only question is where? That depends somewhat on our travel speed and the time we spend at the various quite attractive sights.
If we dine on the east side of the Bahia, you could even eat a currywurst according to a German recipe or try the classic Cuban cuisine. If we cross the bay in time thanks to our enormous cruising speed, then we usually fill our hungry stomachs with culinary delights at the Buena Vista Curry Club to recharge the spent energy. We cross some more Habana Vieja after returning to the metropolis, get to know some historical places on the way towards the Malecón and finally return to our starting point.
